These coaches are a set of three sit-astride coaches built for the railway by B. Lomas in 1999. They served the railway on their own for our first three years, before two-train operation dictated the building of more carriages. Originally 6 were built, but 3 (nos. 4-6) were moved elsewhere in early 2001. Each carriage is nine feet long, and can seat about 7 adults or 12 children, and are numbered 1 to 3.
These have been modified with suspension to improve ride quality, they were also later repainted blue and white with Pullman decals added much like 'The Blue Pullman' and are used behind 47338 'Flying Dragon' regularly though D8606 'Clayton' has used them when covering for 47338.

'The Blue Pullman's'
'The New Coaches'
The latest addition to the carriage fleet are the four new sit astride coaches built by B. Lomas in 2022.
Two of these coaches started life as the covered "Pullman" coaches built in 2010 to a similar design to our original covered carriage design; the coaches had been in storage for sometime until February 2022 when two of them were dismantled (the final one being left to run with 'Princess' see below) The chassis were to be used with new coach bodies; two other chassis sourced from other old coaches. Their bodies were built from scratch, painted in the standard maroon that the other coaches wear and had new seats made. Following their entry into service they've been a hit with passengers and have seen regular use behind most of the diesel fleet and the odd steam loco.

'Princess' Saloon'
As mentioned above this is one of the trio of Covered 'Pullmans' built in 2010; whilst the other two were dismantled in February 2022 this one survived and ran behind 'Princess' on her first service train. After Princess was withdrawn from service after her smokebox had corroded the carriage was put back into storage again.

'The Luggage Coach'
The Luggage coach is a sit in carriage with a difference though the same design as some of the other coaches this one is used as coach but also as a luggage van for party trains. The seat is removed and the carriage is place at the rear of the train so people who have birthday parties with us can load items into it. This coach also serves as a spare carriage for service trains.

'The Covered Coaches'
The covered coaches were built in 2002 originally as toast-racks. These were not initially successful, and were re-built between 2005/2006 into covered sit-in coaches which is how they currently run, a third carriage was built to join them. Each of these coaches is eight feet long, and can seat either four adults or eight children. There often used more in wet weather and winter though one can sometimes find it's way onto a steam hauled service.

Rebuilt 2005/06
'The Stoke Set'
This set of carriages came from Stoke Model Engineers Club c.2005; they
were originally blue but once they joined the DMR they were painted in the standard maroon of the other coaches. They are usually used behind our steam locomotives as they are vacuumed braked.

'First Class sit-in coaches'
After the toast-racks were considered unsuccessful, coupled with the need for a higher capacity than that offered by the toast-racks, three more sit-astride coaches were bought in 2003. These vehicles are lower than the original coaches, and passengers' feet are kept inside as well, making them safer. Since their introduction, they have been indispensable and as such are also heavily used. These coaches are eight feet long each, and weighted with concrete ballast, making them very heavy and noticeable behind the loco.
Two of these coaches were dismantled and their chassis used for the final two new coaches (see above). One remains in storage alongside the saloon.
'Slate Wagons & Tanker'
There are currently three small wagons kept at the DMR; a freelance tanker wagon and two slate trucks based on those which ran at the Dinorwic quarries in North Wales. The tanker was used as a weed killing truck at one point. All three wagons are currently out of use sat in storage.

'Snow Queen '
'Snow Queen' was built by S.Cameron and is based on the snow ploughs used by Direct Rail Service on the national network. She was more of a decorative piece and often was put on the front of Scamp or another engine as a demonstration. She like the slate wagons is currently in storage as of 2023.
